Christmas Market

While everyone else is wearing boots, sweaters, and scarves we're still walking around in tank tops and flip flops. While I definitely can't complain about the weather, I do have to admit that the warm temperatures make it hard to get into the Christmas spirit.

Luckily this weekend we had some fun events that made it feel a little more Christmas-y.

On Saturday the festivities started with an embassy potluck at the Ambassador's house. The food was delicious and it was fun to hang out with everyone and enjoy a traditional Christmas meal. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures while we were there. (Though this could be a good thing- I think my belly grew 2 sizes from all the yummy food!) :)

After the party, we headed to the Belgian school for a Christmas market. They had vendors from around the city selling handmade goods. The best part was that many of the vendors were charitable organizations and all of their proceeds went directly towards their work.
I had heard that the market was tons of fun and full of great stuff so I came armed with plenty of cash. I'm so glad I did because I found some stuff I just had to have!

My first purchase was this gorgeous bag. I absolutely love the fabric and the pleating at the bottom. I think it's big enough that it could even double as a small diaper bag! :)  Isn't it lovely?
Of course, when I saw the matching wristlet and mini-wallet, I had to have those too.
What I love most is that these items are handmade by African women in need. The proceeds from these bags go directly to help them. If you're inteterested in getting a bag of your own or just learning about the organization, check them out here.

I also bought some fun handmade ornaments and Christmas cards.

But I have to say my favorite purchases of all are not for me. I finally made my first purchases for Baby L. The first is this absoulutley adorable patchwork stuffed hippo. He's made from several different traditional African fabrics and I fell in love with him the moment I saw him.

Speaking of love, I also couldn't resist this for our little one. It's a fabric safari set. It comes in a little fabric bag and includes a palm tree, the lake, an elephant, a zebra, a hippo, a lion, and a giraffe. Isn't it the cutest thing you have ever seen?

Ok- I know the baby will not be able to use any of this stuff until he/she is much older, but I really wanted him/her to have something from Africa and I'm so glad I found these! I promise I won't share EVERY time I buy something for the baby, but this stuff is just too cute not to share. :)

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I'm going to leave you with one more picture from the Christmas market- an African Christmas tree- made from bamboo, of course!

I'm used to the cold weather around Christmas, and it's been hard for me to get in the spirit as well. It's been raining where we are!

I love your purchases. Especially the hippo and the safari set! Those are way too cute! They are great keepsakes.

I love the African Christmas tree!

It is really warm this week in Texas so it has been hard for me to get in the Christmas spirit as well!

Love all your purchases!
