Boxes, Boxes Everywhere

One of the best parts about a move is the arrival of your stuff household goods . From clothes to kitchenware, it’s the little things that help make a house a home. Luckily, our shipment came about a week and a half ago.

I have to say that I’d been doing really well at keeping the house spic ‘n span. It’s pretty easy when you don’t really have anything to clutter it up. That all changed on TMO delivery day, though. We had 83 boxes and the movers brought it all in and had it placed in the correct rooms in less than fifteen minutes.

Week 18 022

When we got our shipment in Africa, we had them put all of the boxes in one room and we unpacked all of them ourselves. This time, we decided to take the easy way out and had the movers unpack everything and pile it in any empty space they could find.

This was so much easier for us because we didn’t have to worry about opening the boxes or breaking them down when we were done. The crew of 6 had all 83 boxes unpacked in less than 45 minutes.  I was so happy to see them drive away with ALL of that packing material. I just knew it was going to be a piece of cake to get everything put away. Then I looked around and saw just how much stuff we had piled EVERYWHERE!

As I have slowly made a dent in the huge piles, I have come to realize that I am not a fan of unpacking. Sure, it’s fun to live in a new place and decorate a new house but man it’s a pain trying to find a place to store all the junk we have accumulated over the years.  (I cringe when I think about how much we left in storage. Unpacking when we get back to the U.S. will be a nightmare!) The good news is that this house has TONS of storage space. The brown cabinets you see in the bottom pictures are in every room and they have lots of shelves and racks.  We also have several good-sized storage closets that are currently bursting at the seams being put to good use.

Overall I’d have to say it’s been another successful move. I can confidently say that this house is starting to feel more like home, junk and all.

You definitely have your work cut out for you girl, but I know you and you'll have it done in NO time (you're probably unpacking as I type this!)!! I wish I was there to help you unpack!! Good luck with it and can't wait to see it all put together!

I actually love unpacking because once i'm done everything is organized. And then it gets messed up and it is never organized again. but for that first few days....it's magical!

Ahhh!!!! So exciting! We've been living for a year without our personal goods and have 10 more months to go! I can't wait for the arrival of our shipment next July/August!!

Also, was your house furnished, or did you purchase your dining room set and couch there? If so, where from?

Maybe I'll change my tune once we go through a couple moves, but so far I can't imagine having anyone unpack for me. Haha I have to have control over something and unpacking doesn't bother me too much. :)

Take your time putting it all away.

I think it's always a little overwhelming to organize as you unpack. It seems like it always takes me a bit of time to "live in the house" before I know where to put everything. Good luck!! :)
