Momma Needs a Makeover Part 2: Fashion

I have always loved clothes. Up until I was pregnant I could spend HOURS in the mall shopping for new clothes. I’ve never been a really trendy person- I usually just buy what I like and what I think looks good. I think I have pretty eclectic taste and I don’t care if it’s name brand as long as I like it. Truth be told, I’m not much of a risk-taker when it comes to fashion but I do feel like I used to dress pretty well.

However, since having Emerson I feel like I am completely lost when it comes to buying new clothes/deciding what to wear. I think there are a few reasons for this.

1. My body has changed and things don’t fit me the same way anymore. I used to be able to just order a pair of pants online in my regular size and know that they would fit just fine. Now those same pants are baggy in places where they used to be fit just right and tight in places where they used to be loose. It just goes to show that your weight definitely doesn’t determine how your clothes fit.

2. I am completely overwhelmed when I walk into stores here. I’m unfamiliar with most of them so I usually don’t know where to start. I also have to take into account what is expected in clothing choices here. ven though we are in a very tolerant country, it is preferred that the knees and shoulders aren’t shown. That being said, there are LOTS of people here who choose to wear whatever they like including short dresses and tank tops and most of the time it is completely fine. I personally prefer to dress a bit more modestly so that I fit in and I am less noticeable. I will wear sleeveless shirts and dresses at the beach, but not when we are going to the mall, grocery store, etc…

3. I love the jeans tucked into boots look but I’ve yet to find a pair of skinny jeans that I like. I do have a pair of Nine West boots that I love but I’ve never worn them because I can’t find jeans! It is a little warm here for boots during the day but I could definitely rock them at night.

4. Most of my clothes are work clothes. I have plenty of nice shirts. pants, and dresses, but they aren’t really good for every day wear/chasing a mobile baby.

5. I want outfits that are cute, yet comfortable, since I spend most of my day on the floor with a 7 month old. I feel like I have plenty of nice stuff to wear out for date night and things like that, but I don’t have cute stuff to wear on a daily basis for running errands, going grocery shopping, and taking Emerson to playgroups.

I guess what I’m trying to say is I have no clue what I’m doing when it comes to picking clothes for my new role in life! I’m obviously too old for Abercrombie t-shirts but my selection of dressy button-ups and ruffled blouses aren’t right for me either.  I’ve mostly been wearing plain fitted t-shirts and my trusty Rainbows. I just feel like I look very blah and maybe a little too casual sometimes. My goal is to be a bit more put-together and cute, while still being comfortable. I just don’t want to be a frumpy Mom!  Smile So, what’s a girl to do?

Once again, Pinterest saves the day! ! I’ve been pinning lots of outfit ideas for inspiration. Now I just need to start shopping and see if I can make a few of these outfits my own!

Would you believe that I don’t own a single pair of flats? I’ve always been a heel girl but unfortunately, heels and stroller just don’t mix! I’m on the hunt for a cute pair of flats. What kind do you recommend?

I love everything about this outfit!

Which outfit do you think I should try to make my own ? And while I’m asking questions- what are your go-to staples for casual days?

I know what you're talking about. I had no idea what to wear after having Hadley. By the time I figured it out I was pregnant again. I have finally jumped on the leggings and tall boots trend. I know I'm a few years behind on that but I love the look. I feel put together, trendy and comfy all at the same time. It bodes well for pregnancy too. I have only had to buy one pare of maternity pants so far.

By the way...the outfits you picked were way cute. I'm going to have to come back to this post when I need new clothes again.

I feel the same way! My wardrobe is so boring. For Christmas I asked for money so I could spruce up my look!

Oh girl, I hear you. My days lately are spent in pajamas or sweats. It can get depressing! I don't fit in a lot of my clothes...and honestly, I have one pair of jeans I fit into right now- and they are maternity! :( No boots and skinny jeans for me this year. *tear*

Last year, I got a pair of skinny jeans that I loved from Kohl's - Lauren Conrad's line.

As for flats, LOVE THEM. Target usually has great flats. I have a silver pair from there that I've been wearing for a few years. Ballet flats are the most comfy- the more bendable/flimsy, the better if you ask me! Gap has had some really cute ballet flats in the past, too, that come in a sweet little pouch.

Girlfriend we are in the exact.same.boat!
And it's not a fun boat to be on, is it?!
I lost almost all of my weight right away without doing anything (within 3 weeks I only had 3 pounds to go). And 9 weeks after that, I STILL have 3 pounds to go (which I know is really good) but the weight means NOTHING. NOTHING fits me the same regardless of how much I weigh. My mat. jeans don't fit because they fall off, but my regular jeans don't fit because of the mom chub...ugh! And things just don't look as good...i feel like I just got wider. Do you feel like that??
I try to dress cute (I always dressed pretty casually anyway since I taught preschool) but then I just feel like it doesn't look good because of this situation!
so anyway, I love outfits #2 and #3! They are all cute though. And girl, you need to get yourself some flats!! I get most of mine at Target or Kohl's just randomly. My problem now is that some of them don't fit because I think my feet grew? Oh boy, the joys of the changing mom bod!! (Totally worth it!) So to answer your questions, my typical casual outfit would have been cute jeans, I love layers so maybe a cute tank with a flowy open long sleeve shirt, or a cute tee with a scarf, and some flats to match. NOW I feel like I barely get out of my pj's or sweats taking care of the babe all day!!!

I feel the same way. My clothes fit so differently now.

Love Pinterest for inspiration!!

I love flats and have TONS of them. My favorite places to get them are Target (online as well), Wet Seal (online... sounds weird, but they have some cute ones) and Rack Room Shoes (in the store). Good luck!

love this post! I pin lots of outfit on Pinterest that look a lot cuter on the screen than they do when I wear them! And I totally understand about pants being baggy and tight in different places than before. Since having G I can only find one pair of pants to fit right!
