500 Posts Later: Why I Blog

Oh my! It's hard to believe that I have written 500 posts on this little old blog. What started as a way to document our lives overseas has turned into much, much more. So today, in honor of my 500th post, I thought it would be fun to list out all of the reasons that I continue to blog.

To keep my friends and family up to date with our lives. We are spread out all over the world so this is an easy way to share everything that is going on with us. I'm thankful for each one of my friends and family members that read. I love you guys!

To document our day to day and our big events. From the most mundane to the exciting- I like to share most of it here and I really love looking back on it. Every time I start reading old posts my only wish is that I had started blogging long before I did. I am SO thankful that I did start though because now I have so many fun memories that I'll be able to read about forever.

It's Emerson's baby book. I have kept track of almost every little detail about her precious little life and I am SO glad that I have. When I was writing out some of her monthly posts I put so much information that I'm sure most of my readers were bored. But you know what? Those are the little details that I love to look back on. Even though I am doing a photo book for each year of Emerson's life, I don't think any of them will compare to what has been written here because it was written as it happened. You can't get those moments back but you can relive them when they are written with such detail.

To share my heart, my struggles, my joys, my fears, and everything in between. Although it isn't easy, I've found that the posts in which I really share my heart are the ones that I end up loving the most.

To write. I've always loved to write and blogging gives me that outlet that I need.  When I sit down to write a post I hope that it *sounds* like me and that those of you that know me would feel like we are sitting down together and having a conversation. Now, I know that my writing is not Pulitzer material or anything. But to me, it is writing. And that is all that counts.

The community. I can't even begin to put into words what the blogging community has meant to me over the last 2.5 years. I started blogging when we moved overseas. I was in a strange country where I knew no one. Blogging allowed me to connect with others even at times when I felt like I was alone. Since becoming a Momma, I have come to value the blogging community even more. I have really connected with some other new(ish) mommas and we have watched each other's children grow up right before our very eyes. I'm amazed that I have made such sweet friends even if we've never actually met. It's really neat, even if I sound like a complete dork saying that.

To Get Advice. You can bet if you have a question that someone out there that reads your blog can answer it!  Bloggers come from every walk of life and between all of them it is almost guaranteed that someone can relate to your story and offer advice. Be it motherhood questions, fashion advice, or just someone to say, "I've been there." Sometimes even reading a post by someone who is in a similar season of life can be an amazing experience. You can find it all in the blogging world.

To Share Too Many Pictures. I rarely post pictures on FB so this has become my place to share all of my pictures. Pre E you would find a larger variety of pictures but now I think it's safe to say that 95 percent of my pictures are Emerson related. I'm 100 percent okay with that. :)

To Honor God and the work He is doing in my life. I haven't talked about it too much because I have a hard time putting it into words but I do hope that my blog becomes a place where He is glorified and the Good News is shared. I don't think it's there yet but that is my hope.

Blogging makes me happy. Why am I still doing it 2.5 years later? Because I love it. I genuinely do. For all of the reasons listed above and for so many more that really can't be explained. Blogging is my hobby and maybe even my passion. No- I'm not a famous blogger with tons of followers. And I don't make a single penny off of my blog. I'm just an average girl who has been blessed far more than I deserve and I hope to keep on telling my story one post at a time.

Why do you blog?

Happy 500th post!

As a new blogger, I started blogging for many of the same reasons that you did, and I can only hope that I make it to my 500th post and still feel the same way.

Love your blog- keep it up!

Awesome!! 500!! I started because I wasn't doing well with the baby book on #2. And my sister would ask me things about when my daughter was a baby and I couldn't remember. There's only so much you can write down in a baby book! Love reading your blog!
