Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge

If you've followed my blog for a while you know that I go through spurts of healthy eating and exercising and then I somehow fall of the bandwagon. 2012 has been no exception. I started off strong in January and built up a pretty good routine by May. Then we went home for summer vacation and my healthy ways went by the wayside.
When we got back in August I vowed that I was going to get back into working out regularly. I even signed up for a half-marathon with the hopes it would get me motivated. But as you can see from the graph above, I did very little in August and September. Throughout October I continued to struggle to get back my motivation back.

Then a few weeks ago I was able to borrow a copy of a 90 day workout program, Jillian Michael's Body Revolution. I always love doing programs like this with a set schedule because it helps me stay on track. I started on the 22nd and I'm happy to say that I'm now on my 3rd week and going strong. Although it requires 6 workouts a week they are all only 30 minutes long. I have absolutely no excuse for not being able to workout for at least 30 minutes. That being said, just because the workouts are shorts doesn't mean they are easy. No sirreee. I have been pretty sore over the last few weeks! I've also been adding some Turbo Fire and running back into my workouts in lieu of the Body Revolution cardio. I'm excited to say that I have not missed a workout yet. This is pretty awesome considering that I have been the queen of quitting as of late.

Even though it's only been a few weeks I feel like a whole new person already. I'm back down to my goal weight (though still have LOTS of toning to do) and I just feel so much better overall. I have way more energy and my general mood is just much sunnier. :)  I've also jumped back on the healthy eating bandwagon and I find that I am motivated to eat so much healthier when I am working out.

I have once again realized just how important exercise is for me- not just physically, but also mentally. Not to mention how vital it is to me to set a good example for Emerson. I don't know why I ever allow myself to get out of my healthy habits!

Of course, just like every time I start something I am all gung-ho and excited at the beginning but eventually the excitement wears off and I get lazy. That's where the Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge comes in. As soon as I saw a friend post about it, I knew it was exactly what I needed to stay accountable during the holiday season.

Basically, participants earn points for exercise, healthy eating, and completing mini-challenges from November 19-Jan. 5. Throughout the challenge, prizes will be awarded for different accomplishments. Normally I wouldn't pay to be part of a challenge but I knew in this case it would be beneficial for me to put my money where my mouth is. There is no way I'm going to give up my $25 bucks without a fight. :)

Whenever I don't feel like going to the gym I remind myself that I will be grumpy and foul if I don't go, exercising is so much about the mind for me and eating healthy goes hand in hand with exercise for me too. If I don't exercise than I eat terribly which is probably what puts me in a bad mood too.

Since you like to follow workout programs I'd suggest Insanity. It's all body weight and does provide results. Month 1 is about 40 minutes long (including warm-up, stretching, workout, cool-down stretching) and month 2 goes to about 50-60 minutes. It's difficult, but not impossible!
