2012 Goals: Failures and Successes

Now that 2012 is winding down it's time to take a look back at this year's goals/resolutions and see how I did.

Here are my goals:

My successes:
-run a half marathon (so I think I should change this to complete a half marathon since I didn't actually run the whole thing- but at least I did it!)

-sew a dress for Emerson- I made 3 dresses and one pair of pants. Yay!

-Make monthly meal plans- I mostly did weekly meal plans and we ate home more this year than we did the year before. I think 2013 will be even better because shopping for ingredients is SO much easier in American grocery stores. (Eeek! Just typing that out gave me butterflies!) :)

-Take a trip- We took two trips this year. First we went home to Texas for the summer and then in September we went to India

Sort-of Successes:
Complete Chalean Extreme - I didn't do CE but I will finish Body Revolution in January and it's a pretty similar program. My whole point in making this goal was to stick to a 90 day program and so far I have done it. Even though I'm not going to be finished by the new year, I will be pretty close.

Complete Bible X- I didn't do this but I did complete a Bible study (James: Mercy Triumphs) so I'm happy with this goal. This was my first Bible study to complete in a group and I learned so much. I can't wait to do another one.

-Get better at photography- I think it's hard to measure whether this goal was a success. I have definitely learned more about photography and I took some pictures that I love. But I didn't devote nearly as much time to learning as I had hoped.

-Run 365 miles- So far I have only run 120 miles this year. So that's not even half as much as I wanted BUT my reasoning behind setting this goal was to get back into working out regularly. For the most part I have done this (not counting the 4 months I took off mid-year).  According to Daily Mile I have completed 137 workouts this year for a total time of 92.28 hours. I hope to go way beyond this in the coming year.

-Read the entire Bible- I am about 1/4 of the way through. I have started and stopped several plans throughout the year but I have stuck with one since September (Discipleship Journal's Book-at-a-time) and I am planning on continuing this goal in 2013.

-Learn to Use Photoshop- I did learn a few new things but I'm still not nearly as proficient as I had hoped to be. Every time I looked up tutorials there was so much information that I became overwhelmed. I'd love to take a class or something...

-Stay in touch- I've done better but still not as good as I could have. I'm happy to say that I have reconnected with some good friends so that is a really good thing! At the same time I know that I need to make more effort in this area.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the goals I accomplished this year but I am also disappointed that I didn't reach some of the ones that were most important to me. I have already started my list for 2013 and I've realized that one of the things I need to do is to develop a sort of action plan for each goal. I always have the good intention of doing everything on my list but I get sidetracked sometimes. I think it's important for me to think more about how I'm actually going to reach my goals if I want to be successful. I don't think I have to do this for every goal but for more wide ranging goals (like learn to use Photoshop) it would be helpful to have specific tasks listed. I found this awesome goal planning sheet on Buttoned Up:

I'm excited to use it to make my 2013 goals even better!

Did you set goals in 2012? How did you do?

I like your goal planning sheet. That looks helpful. I've always heard your goals should be "smart". Specific. Measurable. Attainable. Realistic. Timely.

Congrats on the goals you completed. That's great! The dresses you made for E were super cute.
