Marine Corps Birthday Ball 2012

Throughout Jesse's Marine Corps career I have been to 9 Marine Corps Birthday Balls. Some have been amazing and others have been so-so. Sometimes the best part of the evening is getting dressed up and sometimes there's just something special that turns the event into a night you will never forget.

I didn't think anything could top our ball at the Emirates Palace. Not necessarily because it was a blast or anything, but mostly because of the amazing location. But I have to say that this ball was one of the best I have ever been to. We had SO much fun celebrating at our last overseas ball and Jesse's last ball as a Detachment Commander.

Here are a few pictures from the night.

Looking down on the cocktail hour. If you look carefully you can spot Jesse and me in the crowd.
The ballroom looked stunning with black tablecloths and chair covers. I loved it!

Jesse was so busy during the first part of the evening so I was so happy we got a few pictures together.
My gorgeous friend Ashley
My dress. I swear I'm not really this pale. I had to use the flash because it was dark in there and it made me look really washed out.
I also forgot to get a good picture of my updo, but this gives you an idea. :( It's the first time in years that I've had hair long enough for an updo. She did a lot of curls, braids, and twists and it looked really good from the side and the back. (And I was wearing earrings but one of them broke during the night so hence I am earringless in this picture)
One of my very favorite people and awesome neighbor (Jesse and I always luck out in the neighbor department!)
Jesse walking in the Ambassador and the honored guest

He did a great job introducing them and sharing their biographies. We had a crowd of almost 500 people and he didn't sound nervous at all.
It's tradition to cut the cake with the sword and present a piece to the oldest and youngest Marine present.

After the ceremony and dinner we did lots of dancing and hanging out. I haven't danced like that in years and it was such a blast!
After dancing most of the night I looked like a sweaty mess but that didn't stop me from taking pictures!

Towards the end of the night the hotel brought out this giant bottle of champagne. The Marines decided the best way to open it was with the sword. I swear it wasn't as dangerous as it looks.

It was the perfect ending to an awesome night! I'm quite certain that this is one of the balls that we will be talking about for a long time to come.

And, of course, I can't do a post about the ball without sharing our professional picture. It's not the best but it's definitely better than last year's so I'm not complaining! :)

Y'all look so good!!! I loved your dress, so pretty. :) I'm glad you had such a good time. I'm always jealous this time of year...the AF ball is just not nearly as exciting so we've never gone.

I love your dress. I went to my first Maribe Corps ball this year and had a blast. It's so cool your husband was part of the ceremony.
