Toddler Halloween Activity Day 1: Potato Jack O'Lantern Painting

Our first activity to kick off our 31 days of Halloween fun was potato jack o'lantern stamping.

I really liked this project because it required very minimal materials and the set up and clean up was super easy!

Orange paint
Green paint (optional)
potatoes cut in half and carved with faces

We used a paring knife to cut our jack o'lantern faces. They aren't the best but they got the job done!

I found that it worked best to paint the potato lightly with the paint and then let Emerson stamp it on the paper. I helped her to place them and then she did the rest.  (Of course I failed to get a single picture of her actually doing the stamping. Her hand was a blur!) :)
We finished each pumpkin with a fingerprint stem. I have to be honest and say that this was Emerson's favorite part. I thought it turned out super cute!
Once we finished our first picture, Emerson really wanted to paint with the paintbrush and do her own stamping.

While I love the project we did together, I love this one just as much or more because she truly did it on her own! Trust me when I say that they both will have a special place on the fridge!

If you are looking for an easy and fun Halloween craft, I can say that Emerson and I both recommend this one! I think it was a perfect start to the Halloween season.
