2013 Review: Survey Edition

What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?
I moved to California after living overseas for three years.
Did you keep your new years’ resolutions?
Will you make more for next year?

I kept some but not all. I plan on doing a recap sometime in the next few weeks. I don't think I'll be making resolutions this year and instead I'll focus on monthly or weekly goals.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
Several friends and lots of blog friends. I'm pretty stoked that we're next!!
What countries did you visit?
Does Abu Dhabi count?
What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
Honestly I would just like for Jesse to be well and able to walk normally again.
What dates from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory?
May 11th- I found out I was going to be a mommy for a second time.
August 31st- the day that I received the call from Afghanistan that Jesse had been injured.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Hmmmm....I'm not even sure. I guess I would say surviving being pregnant, having a toddler, and taking care of Jesse while he recovered.
What was your biggest failure?
I don't really consider this a failure but I started an embroidery business on the side and only did it for about two months before deciding it just wasn't for me. I learned that I prefer to spend my spare time making stuff for Emerson as opposed to making stuff to sell.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just all of the little things that come along with pregnancy. I had about 7 weeks of pretty bad morning sickness but other than that I can't complain.
What was the best thing you bought?
Apple TV- we use it daily!
Our car- I love driving an SUV and can't imagine ever going back to a car
Whose behavior merited celebration?
Emerson's? Haha. I really don't know how to answer this.
Where did most of your money go?
Target and the fabric/craft stores
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
moving back to the States
finding out that we were pregnant and having another girl
What song will always remind you of 2013?
I think all of The Lumineers album. It's one of the few albums that I can listen to on repeat.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder?Happier

Thinner or fatter?Definitely fatter! Hello baby bump!

Richer or poorer?Richer...in all of the things that money can't buy.
What do you wish you’d done more of?
blogged- My posts have been a bit sparse this year.
volunteered- one of my goals this year was to volunteer and give more and I definitely haven't done that. I'm hoping to do a better job of that in 2014.
What do you wish you’d done less of?

How will you be spending Christmas?
We'll attend the Christmas Eve service at our church and then on Christmas Day we'll have family time in the morning and head to have lunch with a big group of Marines and their families. I'm really looking forward to all of it- especially because Emerson is so excited about things Christmas this year.
Did you fall in love in 2013?
I fell more in love with my sweet family. It's been a trying year for us but we made it through stronger than ever. I'm so proud of Jesse and how he has handled his injury and recovery. I fall more in love with Emerson every day. She is constantly bringing a smile to my face.
What thing did you do that was meaningful to others?
I honestly can't think of anything. One of my goals this year was to be more giving and I don't think I've really done anything to meet that goal. I hope I can do a better job of that in 2014.
What were your favorite TV programs?
Suits, Scandal, Revenge
Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
What was the best book you read in 2013?
I haven't read a book in a couple of months. Sad, I know. I did start off the year reading a lot but I can't even remember much of what I read. I guess I'll say that Gone Girl was one of my favorites.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
I don't think I've made any great discoveries but I've been thrilled to be able to use Pandora again. It was a no go overseas so it's nice to be able to use it when I'm walking or in the car.
What did you want and get?
To move back to the States and to be blessed with another baby (God is SO good and I am blessed beyond measure!)
What did you want but did NOT get?
I can't even think of anything.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 32 this year (two weeks ago!) and I celebrated with pancake breakfast with my girl and In N' Out for dinner. We're fancy these days, I tell ya!
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Jesse's injury and recovery has been, by far, the hardest part of our year. And yes we are absolutely thrilled that he is home and will be here for the birth of the baby. BUT if I had a choice I would have rather it never had happened. Seeing someone you love in so much pain is the worst feeling in the world.
What kept you sane?
My faith, prayers, family and friends
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I honestly don't follow celebrity stuff that much and I can't even think of anybody off the top of my head.
What political issue stirred you the most?
Everything that has been going on with the cuts in military spending. I feel like our government is letting us down and it's definitely scary to be unsure of our future!
Who do you miss?
Our friends in Abu Dhabi and our families
Who are the best new persons you met this year?
my awesome neighbor who has gone above and beyond to help with anything and everything
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
God has a plan and we have to trust Him even when we don't understand it.
Quote that sums up your year:
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
 Philippans 4:13
