Body After Baby: Two Weeks

I have a little confession to make. I really, really dreaded the post baby body. After Emerson was born I just felt so uncomfortable and never felt good in my own skin. It took me almost a year to feel good about myself. I didn't like taking pictures and for the first few months I tried to hide the extra flab under baggy shirts.

This time around I vowed I would do things differently. I tried to stay in shape as much as possible by working out when I could but I also promised myself that I would embrace my postpartum body- flab, belly pooch, and all. I also vowed to blog about it. It's crazy to be ashamed of your body when it just did something so amazing! I have to say that I have felt so much better this time around. It's true that I am smaller than I was after Emerson and my belly seems to be going down faster, but I also think my adjustment in attitude has helped a lot.  I know that it took a long time to put the weight on and it's going to take some time to get it off. In the meantime I will not hide behind clothes or be ashamed. This body just grew a human being!! :)

I am not one of those people who loses all the weight the day after they come home from the hospital and I know it's going to be slow and steady. Anyway, as promised I plan on blogging about my journey back to my pre-pregnancy body. I don't know if I'll do this weekly or what, but I will be sharing one way or the other.

I gained a total of 32 pounds during my pregnancy. Here is my final belly pic, taken the night before Adelyn was born.

And here I am last Thursday at two weeks postpartum. (I feel like my belly has gone down even more since then, so I'm happy about that! Now I just look a few months pregnant instead of 4 or 5. :) Either way, I really wanted to post these pictures for sake of comparison when it is all said and done.)
So far I have lost about 16 pounds. Halfway there! My weight loss seems to have slowed down now I think it's all up to me and hard work now.

I have to admit that I have been eating like there is no tomorrow. I have been starving and I've been turning to mostly carbs!  I do have a plan for getting back into those pre-pregnancy jeans, though! Here it is:

-I joined a health/fitness challenge on Facebook. It officially starts tomorrow and lasts twelve weeks. Each participant chooses one goal to focus on throughout the twelve weeks. I chose to complete at least three workouts per week. I'm super excited to be part of the group and I think it will be great for accountability.

-I haven't been cleared for exercise yet so I started off by walking on Day 8. It was super slow but it felt so good to be moving. I've just did a mile at a time to start with but I was happy that I got out there 4 times this last week. Most days I was pushing E in the jogging stroller and wearing Adelyn so I'm definitely not breaking any speed records. :)

-On Day 15 I was feeling pretty much back to normal so I decided to try to jog a little bit. Although I haven't technically been cleared, I feel like I know my body best and I know when I'm doing too much. I also did run/walk intervals until I was 33 weeks along so I felt comfortable trying it out. I used the first day of Couch to 5k and it felt great. I didn't have any pain and I felt really good afterwards. My legs were a little sore but other than that I felt back to normal.

-Now that I'm easing back into exercise, my goal is to start Body Revolution again. The workouts are only 30 minutes a day so I really have no excuses. I also like that it starts off pretty easy and then gets more difficult as time progresses. I did the first four workouts throughout most of my pregnancy so I'm hoping they won't be as hard when I start again. I have some pictures saved from when I finished my last round of BR and I'm using them as inspiration. At this point it's hard to imagine that I'll ever be in shape like that again, but I know it's possible! For now I plan on just sticking with the first 4 workouts until I'm cleared by my doctor. They are low impact enough that I think I can do them without risking injury or impeding my recovery.

-I really need to clean up my diet. I don't plan on counting calories or dieting at this point because I am nursing, but I do want to get back to making healthier choices and just eating more clean in general. Right now my biggest weakness is carbs (especially dry cereal- I just can't get enough!) I've given myself some leeway over the last few weeks but I know I feel so much better when I eat well. It's time to get back to smoothies and green juices!

I'm hoping by the end of the 12 weeks I will be back at my pre pregnancy weight and be able to fit into my regular jeans. I know I won't have a six pack or anything like that, but I'll be happy if I can least wear my clothes! Any other mommas out there working on shedding the baby weight? Let's cheer each other on!

Fist of all you look great full-term and post-pregnancy. I am a still 2 sizes bigger than I was pre-pregnancy with Haley. She is almost 6 months old. I have not enjoyed having to buy bigger clothes and not having any time to exercise and feeling bad about myself. I hope to have more time and ability to exercise when our weather warms up. Who wants to walk in 20 degrees? LOL All that said, I think you are very brave to share your journey and I truly hope you reach your goals in your timeline, but I hope you won't beat yourself up if it takes a little longer. I've had a lot harder time the second time around and my cousin (that has two kids) warned me it would be harder the second time.

WOW. I have a 3 1/2 year old and a 5 month old (both girls) and you are already do more with both of your girls than I have in the past 5 months. I'm going to keep reading your blog to get some inspiration and motivation for my own life.
You look great by the way!

I think it's great you are willing to share pictures like this!! I've been feeling yucky already with the loose skin. My husband and I are going to diet together soon. I know it is going to take some time to get rid of the weight, but I'm so ready to feel like myself!

The carbs always call my name after baby too! I think it has something to do with breast feeding - I'm just hungry all the time. Makes it hard to watch what I'm eating, but I'm so impressed that you have such a well laid out plan!

You look great already and way to have a positive attitude. I also craved carbs and tons of sweets while i was nursing. Fortunately nursing helped me lose weight super fast while still eating donuts and brownies, it was crazy. I kind of miss those days.

Well you look fabulous! And I love your attitude! I felt like by not stressing so much about my post baby bod (and just about baby stuff in general) that I have bounced back much faster! I still have about 5 lbs hanging around, but I think it might be here to stay until I'm through nursing. Small price though!

My family is full of body builders and health nuts. My brother recommended me a couple of supplement products. Which fortunately proved enough for me.
