Playing Catch-Up

I've been trying to go back and do monthly recaps since I really didn't blog in 2017 but its a slow process. In the meantime, I thought I'd catch y'all up on recent happenings in our lives.

Our biggest news is that we put our house on the market! We've been considering selling for a while and the timing was finally right so we listed it right before Thanksgiving. We were under contract in less than 2 weeks with a closing date at the beginning of January. We weren't expecting it to be that quick!! We're currently knee deep in boxes and scrambling to find a place to live! We're strongly considering base housing but we are not sure if they'll have a house for us. Hopefully we'll know something next week.  Nothing like cutting it close, huh?

We are going to miss our neighbors so very much but we are excited for this new chapter. We're looking forward to downsizing and I can't wait to be minutes from work. I think it's going to make everything a lot easier for us. It will be hard to say good-bye to this house and the amazing memories we have made here but we truly feel this is the best choice for our family.

I'll hit my year mark at my current job in January. It has been quite a learning curve for us this year with a lot of adjustments but I think we've finally gotten used to our new normal. I have really enjoyed being back in the workforce and I have been blessed with THE best co-workers. I don't think I've ever laughed so much at work. I swear I'd be lost without them!

Back in May I began feeling the call back to teaching. I currently work as a trainer for teachers in early childhood education. I love training adults but I really miss the interaction with school age kids and the chance to make a difference in their lives. I've been out of the classroom for 9 years so the thought of going back does scare me a little bit. That being said, I decided to go ahead and pursue renewing my teaching license just in case. After tons of phone calls, faxes, emails, paperwork and months and months of waiting I FINALLY got my renewed license last week! It was truly a moment I thought might not happen so I was beyond excited. I don't know if/when I'll go back but I feel like it's such a blessing to know that the opportunity is there.

The girls are both doing amazing!! Adelyn absolutely loves preschool and she has grown and learned so much. I think the adjustment of me going back to work was the easiest on her. She loves going to school every day! She's recently become really interested in drawing and she loves to be read to. She still a mess and gets into everything but man she is the most lovable little thing.

Emerson is a big first grader! She's reading and writing like a pro and has been blessed with another great teacher. She also loves school though she's not really a fan of after school care.

She started gymnastics in June and she has fallen in love. She moved up to an intermediate class in August and she practices at home every day. I don't think I've ever watched so many cartwheels, handstands and walkovers. :)
Jesse continued working on his degree this year. He attended school all day every other weekend and completed 10 classes. He has just 4 to go complete his Bachelor's in Aviation Management. It has been a huge sacrifice and he hasn't had a break all year. I am SO proud of him! (All of this while working full time and doing so much for the kids, including picking Emerson up every day!)

We're currently waiting to see if a promotion and orders are in our future. The waiting game is pretty hard but you know the Marine Corps's motto: hurry up and wait!
It's been a busy year full of lots of changes but I think we've handled it pretty well. We are looking forward to 2018 and we can't wait to see what it has in store for us!
